My brother and guildies helped me out a bunch when I just started out (two weeks ago). Gave me an enchanted shield, a fiery dragon sword and later on a max dmg fell blade and a sword pommel of fortitude. And when I first entered Piken Square, there was somebody running to LA for free. That helped me out a lot too.

When I started playing, two friends of mine set me up with some gold... Well, actually I should say Platinum. 3 Plat. from one, 5 Plat. from the other. It helped me out a lot, even if 6.5 Plat of it is still sitting in storage. The armor I was able to buy with some of it has made it a lot easier to survive, but I'm trying not to rely on it too much. I like to make my own way in the world

EDIT

Was also recently given an Elswyth's Recurve Bow by a guildie because my Ranger was in sore need of a decent bow for GvG...

Hey all

Well I am glad to see a thread I started is doing so well and we are above 100 posts.

Still have a long way to go before we catch the 'Jerk' thread

My main character w/mo has finally acended and now I just do a bit of farming as I dont have much time to play at the moment.

One of my fav ways to farm is the charr outside of Piken .. dont get much but some charr hides and charr statues (cant for the life of me remember their name) which I then exchange at the collector in Piken for swords and bows which I then give to low level character.

Just my way of helping out people after all the help I received on the way up.

If more people were helpful instead of scamming and nasty it would be a lot nicer to play.

cheers
Zubie

Over the last ten months I have had ALOT nice things done for me. But the one that stands out was the very first nice thing...I was brand new to the game, first character, in pre-searing. aka: Clueless. Somehow I had black dye but had no clue of its value. So I had it in my inventory just ignoring it and there is a guy "Buying Black Dye"...so I was thinking thats cool I have some of that. So I say in public chat "I have some black dye". Instantly I get a private message from a total stranger..."Do not sell your black dye it is very valuable hold onto it until you get to post searing!"

So, thats what I did. If not for the stranger I would have gotten ripped off.

Well the nicest thing happened last night to me curtesy of a bug in the game...lol. I was in Ascalon giving away a ton of blues and purples and platinum to new players that I would find by benoit the cheap armor guy. Well when I was just about done the bug happened. On my last 4 items I would give the 4 to somebody they would accept and stuff then leave. Items remained in my inventory...hum. Maybe lag so I log off then back on...still there. So i keep giving the items away to whoever I found was new. Was able to give it away 5 times...lol. Thanks ANET for helping me help others .

I got given the razorstone for free, by a really nice guildie... yay! Also got an IDS for 5k from a guildie.

I do my part too - gave a guildie 14k because he was broke. Which made me broke, yay! I gave a guy who ran me from LA to sanctum, did the mission for me, ran me to all the places in the desert 20k. He's a FREAKING nice guy!

I also gave a guildie 7k for a gold eternal bow, and then another 8k to buy Ale for the guild. (Don't ask, Guild event ).
Oh yeah, and whenever I'm bored, I usually do free droks runs - and of course, I make sure that there are no newbies in the party. I just ask a question like, "PM me, and tell me what the scepter of orr is" or something.
There are always nice guys, just look out for em. IMO, my guild is the nicest!

Yay, another new story!!

Ok, last night I was just screwing around... running around and getting armor and selling/buying things and running a few easy missions for gold and materials. At this point I have 0g on my Ranger (cleared myself out buying crappy 150g Druids <.<) and my guildie had just helped me do Borlis and I didn't feel like attempting Ruins/Nolani/Frost in PuGs.... so I went to Beacon's to get a free/tip run to Drok's. So I'm sitting there watching all the runners advertise, and I see someone running to/through Sanctum on tips. I get in, and she's a pretty nice runner. She only took 3 of us, but she let me run (I had my running skills on... not anything great but I lived through most of the run) with her, which I thought was pretty cool since she had like 8 levels on me and I'm a semi-squishy ranger. From Beacon's, we went to Kryta, LA, D'Alessio, Hot Springs, ToA, Fisherman's, and Sanctum. One of our guys split somewhere right after D'Alessio I believe, so it was my R/Mo, her W/Mo, and a Mo/X who was hanging back cuz he had no real running skills. When we get to Sanctum I open up a trade and give her whatever I can... which ended up being like a Purple and Yellow dye. I felt bad that I couldn't give her much, but she said it was cool cuz I helped out with the run.

So, now she offers to run us through Sanctum if we'd like. We both say that it sounds cool, and we head off. She lets me run with her again... and I did my best (again) to try and help her out since she was carrying the scepter, so of course everything aggrod to her. I hope my Orisons and Shielding Hands helped somewhat <.< but we kept going. We make it all the way to the end, she throws her Mending on me, and I just stood there trying to tank the last group before we can get on the boat, but I died.... and she was just in front of the Vizier trying to protect him, but they attacked him and he died. So... we warp back. I ask if she wants to go again, and the monk chimes in and agrees with me. We go again, and I die somewhere about 1/3 or 1/2 way to the first cutscene. After the cutscene, I res and keep going with her... we make it to the end and this time I died almost immediately, but she tanked it and we get on the boat and HOORAY! I'm in Amnoon Oasis. I give her the last of my dyes (1-2 Oranges) and thank her again for her kickassness.

So, now I'm just running around looking at everything and seeing what all the dyes cost and stuff. Then she whispers me and says that she has to do the run all over again for a guildie. I whispered her back and asked if she wouldn't mind my Warrior tagging along, since she's already at Kryta. She says its fine, so I go and meet her at Kryta and two of her guildies show up... Runner and Runnee. So we go through the whole process again, which was a lot faster with two runners I must admit, and when we get to the end I give each of them 200g (I only had like 400 on me T_T) and they both thank me but say that they don't really need it. I didn't take it back though, because I really really appreciated the runs and now they're both on my friends list. I'm hoping to get them a few K when I can afford it... or some kickass weapon.

Let's see... It's either the 3k for running them across Riverside, which I tried to refuse, but had trouble doing so... Or the "Wait. You've got no rank, right?" "Yeah." "Hey, here's a build, play this."

The nicest thing someone has done for me is get my new character started, by buying me droknors armor and getting me a decent weapon, after I accidently deleted my main pve character who held all my money and items :P

Ouch... thats really gotta suck. At least someone was nice enough to get you back on your feet after that little screw-up

Umm, lets see. Last night one of my guildies couldn't figure out why he couldn't leave pre. So I went there and found out he hadn't accepted his secondary yet, he just had the skills for it (the amazing thing is, he has multiple characters in post...). I helped him finish off the quest, then I took him to and helped him with all the other quests for his secondary, and helped him re-charm his pet wolf cuz he had to drop it to get the Melandru's and everything. Dinner for me at this point, and when I get back I see a few messages for me to help him, so I just kinda grab him and start going.

I proceeded to run him through the Great Northern Wall mission with bonus and mission, to Sardelac, Piken, Courthouse, Yak's, and Borlis... and I probably would've gotten him to Beacons if I could run that far without dying. I need to practice running North Shiverpeaks more....

Oh, another kinda fun/surprising thing that happened to me yesterday. I was trying to get to the War Camp and I found this group of people that were all running together. I join in (last person) and I ask if I can switch up my skills, but I guess at least 1 person didn't see it and just ran out. At this point I just got either Escape or Dodge as my only real "running" skills... and very few of my healing things. Surprisingly, I made it about 2/3 of the way up Snake... maybe a little farther, but I made it farther than all of Warriors (about 1/2 our group) and the other Ranger, Necro, and Monk. We respawn now, and I ask if I can at least switch up my skills so I can have a better chance of making it. The leader was starting to run off again (we were all running together) and someone from the group pipes up telling him to let me change my skills, cuz he had seen that I made it the farthest I guess.

Get into town, switch skills fast (already set up attributes before we left) and off we go. This time, I'm still in the lead, but eventually I got lost so I just kinda asked if anyone knew where I had to go and someone did so he was drawing on the minimap for me. Three of us had stayed alive this long, but I was still leading and I found my way to Grenth's with some help from the dead guy. Everyone's just happy that we survived, but I took a while to load up the new map (never been there before) and by the time I had spawned, a bunch of people were already taking across the map. So I cast my enchantments, hit Dodge, and take off. I caught up to all of them, and they actually served as pretty good meat shields for all the damn ice spells... and I was in the lead again and I had almost made it to the camp, but the damn mind freeze and ice spikes hurt... a lot. So I died, but I had made it far enough to trigger the respawn point close to the camp, so at least we didn't have to re-run it with semi-dp'd teammates. Once we got into the camp, this monk was asking who he paid for the run. Me and a few others chirped up that it was free, but I added he could pay whoever he wanted if he felt like it. So he opens up the trade window and gives me 500g. I was kinda surprised and happy at the same time, cuz I wasn't expecting to get anything for a team run... but yay! Monays!

/dance

If Knowledge is power, someone gave me and a good sized group of pre-Searing peeps steroids my first day in.

I hadn’t been playing an hour—hadn’t been online more than a few minutes when I see this in the all chat:

guildwars.gameamp.com/guildwars/skill

Fumbling through the controls, I manage to get out (after about 3 other people) “What is that?”

Answer: the official skill list for every profession in the game. Every skill, where to find them with quests or the earliest town to buy them in. Some of my Guildies call me “Answer Man” thanks to that webpage.

But some people might not find that a real Anti-jerk thing to do. I know one thing above all others, that every just popped out of Pre-Searing player loves to hear:

“Level 20 doing mission for fun; invite self.”

If you do that, you’ll make some newbs day…and yours too.

I was advertising in droks for shards for my FoW armor and this guy pmed me and said, I got a few. I was like ok, so I found him and opened trade with him and he submitted 120 shards. I said oh no thank you I only need 20. He said 100g for all of them. I was like are you serious? He said ya I already got my FoW armor and enough money I don't need these. I was like OMFG TY. he said np and went away. THE BEST THING EVER.
